Small Mall is hosting Tereneh Idia for an evening of evolutionary design and sustainable fashion you can do at home.

 

We will start the evening with Tereneh discussing her company and fashion brand Idia’Dega and sustainability in fashion. She will then lead a demo to show how you can revive old forgotten pieces from your wardrobe into something fun that feels new. She will also have some of her accessories available for purchase.

 Pittsburgh native Tereneh Idia is an internationally known fashion designer, Founder and Creative Director of the eco-conscious line Idia ‘Dega, a collaboration with OMWA (Olorgesailie Maasai Women Artisans of Kenya). Idia is a former Parsons professor, hast taught at Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and was a visiting scholar at Yale-NUS. She earned her MSc in Fashion Design from Kenyatta University. She’s been featured in AFROPUNK and was awarded with the Carol R. Brown Creative Achievement Emerging Artist Award.

The brand launched in 2014 at Paris Fashion Week with pieces incorporating indigenous adornment in sustainable design and textile arts. Unique to the brand, indigenous community women artisans are equally involved in the creative design process.
