After spending the last 10+ years building a series of socially engaged projects to connect Pittsburghers and their artistic community, Droege has developed and now runs the social profit organization Casey Droege Cultural Productions . Their practice includes making things in a “studio,” making platforms for other artists, making BIZZZZness happen, and generally getting shit done.
Below is a little selection of past works, lectures, and more to present a glimpse into their mind and working style.
The Equations series used the language of mathematics to quantify the unquantifiable.
Starting with a series of prints and culminating in a large mural on Pittsburgh’s Northside, each piece used objects from my past to add, subtract, divide and multiply experiences and emotions. The label for each piece always held the title, which also acted as the answer to the equation.
In 2013, the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh commissioned an equation for the Underpass Gallery, curated by Nick Chambers of the Warhol Museum. The mural equation was broken into three segments, evaluating wants and needs, relationships, and external forces of our everyday lives.
Best experienced on foot, the equation could be read from right to left or left to right. When walking north the equation’s label was “= The Light at the End of the Tunnel” and when walking south it was “=Loco/motion.”
