Do you want to start an arts residency, but feel daunted by the idea? Running a residency may sound like a hefty load, but if you took the concept and placed it into a smaller space (like a window) your dream can be easy to access.
Our Window Residency program ran from 2018–2020 in Small Mall, CDCP’s former concept store that sold affordable art by local artists. Small Mall’s storefront featured two expansive bay windows, which we saw as an additional opportunity to showcase artists’ work. With the help of grant funding, we established a monthly residency that invited a different local artist to create an installation in the front windows of the shop. We encouraged artists to pair the installation with smaller pieces of work for sale, so the public could engage by looking and buying. Public artist talks kicked off each residency, offering a great way to connect and cultivate an audience for each artist.
