Who is Little Amal:

On September 20th and 21st, Little Amal, the internationally-celebrated 12-foot-tall puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl, will be arriving in Pittsburgh as part of her epic 6,000-mile journey across the United States this fall. From all corners of the globe, people have welcomed Walk with Amal with open arms and hearts.

Throughout the two-month trek, which will span more than 35 U.S. cities and towns for 100+ events, some of the country’s most influential cultural institutions and artists will come together to greet Amal and add their unique color to the rich tapestry of America’s story.

What else is happening in town:

We’re excited to be part of welcoming Little Amal to Pittsburgh and helping spread her message of hope! There are three other events happening for Little Amal in Pittsburgh:

  • September 20 at 12:00 PM — Pittsburgh Public Theater and August Wilson African American Cultural Center event at the O’Reilly Theater (621 Penn Avenue).

  • September 20 at 6:30 PM — RealTime Arts event at Carrie Furnace (801 Carrie Furnace Boulevard). Registration required.

  • September 21 at 12:00 PM — Office for Public Art event at the Great Lawn at North Shore Riverfront Park.

We’re seeking Wilkinsburg artists to submit work for consideration. We will be curating four solo exhibitions at the Wilkinsburg Community Development Corporation’s (WCDC) Lohr Gallery and flex space (725 Wood St., Wilkinsburg, PA 15221) that highlight the arts within the community.
